[FM TOWNS] Rayxanber ライザンバー - Longplay

Rayxanber ライザンバー is a shoot'em up for the FM TOWNS developed by DATA WEST (that must not be confused with DATA EST) in 1990.

This is the first of a trilogy and an exclusive game for the FM TOWNS. The chapter 2 and 3 were developed for the pc engine CD.

PLOT

You have to fight the bio-mechanical alien Zoul empire.

GAMEPLAY

The game consist of 8 stages.

There is no limit to continue if you die , but of course your score will go to 0.

The game uses two buttons. With a button you shoot, with the other one you can use a "speed burst" , very useful in some situations. "Speed burst" will accelerate your ship.

During the game you can get 3 main power ups represented with different colours.

Blue: I don't understand what the voice say ( a sort of missiles)

Green: light ball ( a sort of thunder-laser)

Red: fire balls

If you got a power up and keep pressed the button, you can use a special attack that will be different according to the power up you got.

Blue: shoot eight missiles around you

Green: shoot two green balls that will surround your ship for a second

Red: shoot two chasing fire balls

Another important feature about the power ups is that they "change position" that is to say it's important to pay attention to the angle they've rotated, since it affects the direction the bullets fire from.

At the beginning of each stage a writing will appear that explain how to defeat the boss of that stage.

There is more than a way to complete a stage, for example the boss of stage 6 can be destroyed or not, after some minutes it will simply disappear. Or again, the boss of stage 7 can be killed quickly if you hit the yellow sphere through a narrow opening (like I did in the video) , or can take more time if you can't shoot that point.

The game uses a checkpoint in the middle of the stage , so if you die after the checkpoint you don't have to restart the level from the beginning.

TWO CENTS

I played this game some years ago, and waited some time before trying to do a longplay because I remembered how hard it was. In this video I had to use savestates before the boss of stage 5 and stage 8.
My personal opinion is that this game is one of the most underrated game ever. I absolutely love it. The graphics and musics are good, but the gameplay is AWESOME. The level design is absolutely outstanding. This is imho the best game of the series and one of the best horizontal shump ever.
