Streatham, London.
M/S and C/U of a man sitting in a model spaceship in a workshop, rocking backwards and forwards in it to test it. M/Ss of many different small fairground rides being worked on in this factory; a man screwing a painted model zebra into place on a small roundabout; there is a giraffe on the opposite side.
M/S and C/U of a man painting red markings on a model giraffe. M/S of a man attaching a jet propellor to a model spaceship as another man watches. M/S and C/Us of a young man putting a spangled bridle on a large model horse; could be for a merry-go-round or a rocking horse.
M/S of a man climbing into a model helicopter attached to a large box; the kind of coin-operated rides you see outside supermarkets. He puts a coin in the slot and the helicopter moves up and down while the man fiddles with the controls. Commentator says "A high-flying idea, this, from a factory determined to keep moving - in any direction - with the times".
The scenes of men testing the rides could be used to illustrate adults regressing to childhood / second childhood.
Note: the factory seen is Edwin Hall & Co who made dodgem cars and equipment for scenic railways before diversifying into these rides for stores. On file are some brilliant leaflets about the slot-operated rides they manufactured - 'The Latest in Kiddies Rides' - including a cowboy horse, Muffin the Mule and a Steam Boat ('Every Child is Captain of his own Ship'!).
