The Katra to Reasi rail section of the Udhampur-Baramulla-Srinagar Rail Link (USBRL) project is set for its Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inspection, with a focus on the T33 Tunnel, one of the most complex and challenging sections of the route. Located in Jammu and Kashmir, the 3.2-kilometer T33 Tunnel connects Katra to Reasi on the 111-kilometer stretch between Katra and Banihal.
Formerly known as Tunnel T1, the T33 Tunnel passes through the Main Boundary Thrust (MBT), an extremely difficult geological formation that made its construction a remarkable engineering achievement. Its completion marks a significant breakthrough in the USBRL project, which aims to enhance rail connectivity across the region.
Now ready for CRS trials, the tunnel is expected to play a key role in improving transportation infrastructure and regional connectivity, bringing the USBRL project one step closer to completion.
