My Year 11 VCE Mathematical Methods class are continuing their study of calculus. In this topic, we will consider some applications of differentiation, which was introduced in the previous topic.
In this video, we look at how to classify stationary points as local minima, local maxima or stationary points of inflection. We do this by considering the gradient of the function either side of the stationary point. We also consider how we can use what we already know about polynomial functions to determine the nature of stationary points of these functions.
The class uses the Cambridge Senior Maths textbook for Unit 1 and 2 Mathematical Methods and the TI Nspire CAS CX / CXII calculator.
