LA PORTA DI PIAZZA SANTA CROCE
Questo è uno dei quattro ingressi al complesso oggi occupato dalla
Facoltà di Architettura dell’Università degli Studi di Genova.
Nel medioevo qui vi era una porta delle mura della città, la porta di santa
Croce, e da qui passava il vicolo dritto di Castello.
Alzando lo sguardo, si possono ancora vedere, nel muro di pietra di
una torre fortifi cata risalente al XI secolo, due aperture ad arco che si
affacciavano sulla strada e sulla porta.
Nel XVII secolo, il vicolo venne chiuso dalle suore Domenicane di Pisa,
che qui abitavano e che avevano bisogno di allargare gli spazi del loro
monastero. Per realizzare il nuovo passaggio venne allora costruito
questo archivolto ancora oggi in uso.

ENTRANCE FROM PIAZZA SANTA CROCE
This is one of the four entrances to the complex today occupied by the
Faculty of Architecture of the University of Genoa.
In the Middle Ages there was a gate here in the city walls, the gate
of Santa Croce, and from here passed the straight, narrow street of
Castello.
One can still see, above in the stone wall of a fortifi ed tower dating from
the XI century, two arched openings that face onto the street and the
entrance.
In the XVII century, the street was closed by the Dominican Sisters of
Pisa who lived here and needed to enlarge the convent. To realize the
new passage this vault was constructed, still in use today.
