After more than 10 years with this piece, it was time for a video. - "Commentari III" has been with me since 2014, when I first performed it at the German music competition for youth "Jugend musiziert" — later during entrance exams at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and in many concerts since.
In the very beginning, the technical demands were a real challenge. But after performing it by heart over the years, as my body grew familiar with its movements, the piece gradually became almost like a meditation. - In 2017, I even had the chance to perform it with Dorothée Hahne herself managing the live electronics in surround sound in a beautiful church.
Commentari III is part of a larger concert cycle. The title "Commentari" (Latin: "to reflect," "to contemplate") refers to the idea of meditating on themes — in this case, the legends of Saint Ursula and the mystical musical reflections of Hildegard von Bingen in her sequence "O ecclesia."
