New York, But Make it Cinematic | SIRUI 35mm Anamorphic

New York has always been a dream of mine. Growing up, I fell in love with the city through movies — the streets, the energy, the towering skyscrapers — it all felt larger than life. Finally stepping foot there for the first time felt surreal. As soon as I landed, it was like I was walking through a giant movie set. Every street corner, every bridge, every glimpse of the skyline felt inspiring.

There’s something about the atmosphere of New York that’s different from anywhere else. It makes you want to wake up early, grab your camera, talk to strangers, try new food, explore every block, and just soak it all in. From food carts on the sidewalk, skateboarders flying through the parks, to the insane views from the top of the city — New York really lives up to the hype.

On this trip, I brought my Sony FX30 with me along with a SIRUI APS-C 35mm anamorphic lens to try and capture that feeling as best as I could. I needed some help so I met with an incredible cinematographer called Shiseido who brought his camera along to capture me in frame!
I hope our footage brings you that New York magic.

I was also invited to speak on a panel while I was there, talking to a room full of brand managers about the importance of incorporating culture when working with brands. It was an honour to share my perspective and be part of that conversation. Moments like that remind me why storytelling and representation are so important in my industry.
