All classic scooters require regular servicing to keep them running reliably and efficiently.

A Vespa scooter is a major investment, so you want to make sure it will be around to help improve your quality of life for a long time. As such, a bit of daily maintenance (coupled with a yearly servicing) is highly recommended for those who use their scooter regularly. Basic maintenance is not difficult, and for the most part, can be performed in the comfort of your home.

The biggest problem is that YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW. It is very easy for an unskilled person to damage a mechanical device, often catastrophically, while trying to service it. Simply screwing in a drain plug too much can strip threads or crack a crankcase. Advancing the ignition too far can burn a hole in a piston…

Working on scooters and engines is fun. But it requires a lot more knowledge than the non-trained amateur imagines. Before you start turning wrenches, learn and understand.
