A classic among classic hikes in Southern California. Yeah, it’s a tough one and this route does include an exposed section that has seen people fall to their deaths, but, hey, being careful is all it takes to get through in one piece. This loop hike is at least 11 miles with a whopping 4,000-foot elevation gain. Trust me, the effort is well worth it. Having said that, I highly recommend avoiding this hike in the winter. It can be extremely dangerous without the right equipment and experience.
Directions:
Tap in your map app, “Mt Baldy trailhead.” That’s all you need. The parking area here is large but services several recreation spots, so it’s usually full during the weekend. Go early. I recommend hanging a park pass or Adventure Pass in your car; it’s unclear if it’s required these days.
