The device is powered by a 1.6 GHz Octa core processor and 4 GB RAM running off a 3,300 mAh battery. Surprisingly, the device features a fingerprint sensor which is really good to know that Samsungi is now introducing flagship device features in its low range smartphones.
The first thing to notice is the enormous 5.7 inch display which is surely going to deliver an impressive viewing experience, however, that does come at a cost of a wider grip which is essential to get that size.
Other than that, the build of the device does feel quite premium and I think Samsung has really come a long way from its original J series smartphones that did not feel quite as premium. Even in the back, you can see that there is a metal matte finish that adds to the classy look of the device. I like this finish because it really does not leave any fingerprint smudges like in the case of glass backs.
At the bottom you’ve got a micro USB port while they could have introduced the type C USB in J series with this device. Anyhow, you don’t even have fast charging adapter with the J7 Max.
On the left edge you have the entire gamut – the volume rocker, sim card 1 slot and a hybrid sim card 2 and microSD tray.
The entire device is a single piece with no access to the battery.
But I guess that’s really normal now considering Samsung is doing that with all of its newer devices.
In the front you’ve got a 13 MP camera with an LED flash and f stop of 1.9. Featuring LED flash in the front is typical of the J series smartphones and you get well lit selfies even in the darkest conditions. At the back you have a 13 MP camera with autofocus and LED flash but with an F stop of 1.7.
Galaxy J7 max is really all about its display. It’s got a 5.7 inch display with a resolution of 1080 pixels by 1920 pixels which is basically full HD. Now, this isn’t Super AMOLED – it’s LCD display and a pretty good one. The colors really pop out and the screen is very bright. When you couple this display on the 2.5 D glass that you see atop the surface and add the large 5.7 inch display – you get a pretty beautiful viewing experience. Watching movies or videos on this device – would be a bliss.
Shipped with Android 7 Nougat, the J7 Max comes loaded with Samsung’s latest grace UI – a significant upgrade to its infamous TouchWiz UI.
Smart glow featured last year within the J series smartphones itself which is pretty much like the LED indicator for smartphones only its at the back around the camera. And you just have to enable it once. You can select the color for individual apps or contacts who call you. Whenever a notification or call comes – the LED around the camera will start glowing as per the color you set.
Samsung has introduced Samsung Pay Mini in the J7 max which
basically includes transfer capabilities and not essentially, payment facilities. So you can transfer money via UPI and make payments through wallets like Paytm – but not add credit cards.
Overall – the j7 max is totally worth the price. The large screen, octa core processing power and 4 GB of RAM puts it as a strong competitor to smartphones that have been leading in this price range. The 3,300 mAh battery would easily last you the entire day with moderate usage. The F 1.7 primary camera that can take some pretty shots and capability to shoot full HD videos is also quite commendable. The metallic finish and 2.5 D glass on the surface all within a light-weight thin frame does make the device look good and classy. If the wide grip of the device is something that doesn’t bother you – I suggest you get the device.
