Vijay Kumar presents an overview of some of the key principles that drive "Design Innovation." He follows this with a broad look at the design innovation process and various tools, methods, and frameworks. An innovation process model that Prof. Kumar developed over many years and published in the book, "101 Design Methods: A Structured Approach for Driving Innovation in Your Organization," is used as an overall organizing framework for the talk. This model has seven modes: sense intent, know context, know users, frame insights, explore concepts, frame solutions, and realize offerings. His talk primarily focuses on four principles of design innovation and the related process and methods. Kumar discusses how design innovators and innovation leaders in organizations can effectively use this learning for research, training, project, and strategic applications.
