This is my 1995 BMW E36 325is with an M50B25TU. Owned by my family since new, eventually passed down to your boy (thanks Ate Gina!). It was 100% stock when I acquired this car in 2018 with 135k miles. That's ~5.8k per year! 7 years later and I've only put on ~12k miles, currently sitting at 147k. Still pretty low considering that annual average dropped down to 4.9k per year.
In October 2020, when E36's were still common at junkyards, I stumbled upon a 1995 E36 318is with a 5 Speed Getrag Transmission. Per the Vin (*JA11186), it had an M42 1.8L 4cyl. Some sources say this Getrag is definitely a 220, but other sources sat it may be a 220 or it could be a 250. If it was a 220, why would it fit in my M50? Who knows? Maybe Goober lol. I pulled most of what I could; Transmission, Cross Brace, Driveshaft, Pedal Assembly, Clutch Master Cylinder, Clutch Hard Line, and Flywheel Assembly. Everything else I had to buy brand new.
In any case, one of my biggest gripes with my car is the Automatic Transmission. Not a fan. I recently started having issues with automatically shifting into and out of 2nd gear. Why fix it when I can replace it with parts I've had on the shelves for 5 years? Car Guy Math checked out.
