It's 7:33 p.m., Saturday, August 13, 1977 at Amtrak's Aberdeen, MD station. Southbound Amtrak Train No. 173, "The Minute Man" is making a station stop with 6,000 hp E-60 No. 969 on the head end. Listen for the warning gongs at the E. Bel Air Avenue crossing, chatter on the station platform, the melodious Nathan P01235 E-60 air horn, the mighty traction motor blowers, and two peeps on the communication whistle. Ten minutes later, a southbound Metroliner zips through the station between 105-110 mph, right on the heels of No. 173.
