intruders Mom tried to get food for her 3 osplets but all three passed away. Mom removed the deceased babies one by oneI Mom, came by when the last one moved and was taking dives at the intruder.
So Mom left the nest and was not seen on nest again
INFO from Cape Henlopen State Park The camera had been up for 16 years
Many of us have been watching the osprey cam at Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park, and recently the male osprey from the nest has not returned. He had been at the nest since before 2006, making him at least 20 years old. If the male can't bring back enough food for all chicks, the older chicks will get food first and the younger ones will die. We will continue to monitor the situation and communicate with Fish & Wildlife on the best course of action. Sadly, this reflects what happens sometimes in nature. This specific breeding pair has been very productive in the past, contributing 2 to 3 new ospreys to the population each year.
History of the nest
In 2003 the Park and the Friends started planning for the Osprey Camera – a continuous, real-time closed circuit television camera monitoring the nest of two local ospreys and their offspring. In 2007,
The installation of the cam is focused on the Osprey nest that is Located at Cape Henlopen State Park on top of the SPI tower adjacent to the Park entrance Wilmington, Delaware( SPI= 'Pharma tower innovative solutions to global pharmaceutical') In 2007 the Park installed this Osprey Cam Ospreys usually return to nest in March, eggs hatch in June ,fledge and leave nest in September. The cam originally was placed on a nest platform atop one of two silos at SPI Pharma, Inc. (a company that extracts minerals from sea water located just outside the park). two days later. © 2022 Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park
