Thanksgiving is not meant to be occasional—it is meant to multiply.
In 2 Corinthians 4:15, Paul reveals that as grace reaches more people, thanksgiving should increase and overflow to the glory of God. Thanksgiving grows when we allow our hearts to remain aware of God’s work in and around us.
Dr. Charles Sokile reminds us that true thanksgiving begins with the right attitude. Children teach us something powerful—their thanksgiving is pure, sincere, and flows naturally from the heart. It is not forced, calculated, or strategic. As believers, we are called to mimic the thanksgiving of children—simple, honest, and joyful.
Throughout Scripture, thanksgiving was not an afterthought. It was a response deeply rooted in relationship with God.
Moses understood this clearly. After God miraculously parted the Red Sea and delivered Israel from Egypt, the first response was not strategy—it was thanksgiving and worship. Moses led the people to thank God for salvation, victory, and deliverance (Exodus 15:1).
Later, Moses introduced the law of thanksgiving, making gratitude a spiritual discipline (Leviticus 7:11–12). When God provided manna in the wilderness, thanksgiving followed provision. Moses also thanked God not only for what He did, but for who He is—His character, faithfulness, and holiness.
David carried the same spirit. When he brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, thanksgiving took center stage (1 Chronicles 16:8). For David, gratitude was not only public—it was personal. He constantly reminded his soul to bless the Lord (Psalm 103:1) and made thanksgiving a daily habit (Psalm 34:1).
Jesus Himself modeled the highest form of thanksgiving. He thanked the Father openly, rejoicing in God’s will (Matthew 11:25; Luke 10:21). Before feeding the five thousand, He gave thanks—before the miracle happened (Matthew 14:19; John 6:11). At the tomb of Lazarus, Jesus thanked the Father for a future miracle that had not yet occurred (John 11:41–42).
And most powerfully, during the Last Supper—before the pain, before the cross, before the suffering—Jesus gave thanks (Luke 22:19; Matthew 26:26).
Thanksgiving is not dependent on circumstances.
It is a posture of faith.
It is a declaration of trust.
And it brings glory to God.
