Rovigo Conservatoire organized a project called SoundTrack Europe, which involved many composers, sound designers and post-audio production students from four different countries: Estonia, France, Spain and Italy. A producer and film director from Finland (Jani Pöso and Teemu Nikki from It’s Alive Films) enthusiastically joined the project and provided their new film “Snot&Splash” for the students to work with. The final product will now be marketed along with the soundtrack composed exclusively by the students.
From November 2022 through to March 2023, the teachers of different Institutions drove the students’ work through virtual weekly meetings. Every meeting focused on a specific aspect (analysis of the different scenes, orchestration, arrangement, electronic inputs, post-production, recording, sound design…) and functioned as an opportunity for feedback on the work done up to that point.
The students (around 30) were divided into teams, cooperating in a democratic way to write new music. They had to follow deadlines imposed by the production and accept their decision concerning their work.
The final outcome of the project was an intensive week in April 2023, where the original works of the soundtrack were performed by a real orchestra and recorded by the students.
The project provided significant new learning opportunities and skills development in the music for film field. The students were able to experience a real work situation, with deadlines, specific demands, and ultimately had to deliver a finished product.
