What Does a Youth Pastor Do All Week? Here's the Real Answer

Youth pastors are often asked, "What do you do all week?" People imagine you're living the easy life, like you're a paid Sunday School teacher or something. But you and I know that's not true.

Youth pastors where so many hats that it's hard to keep them all straight sometimes. And besides explaining what you to do other people, it's not always easy to understand what you're supposed to be doing, is it?

Are you supposed to be a missionary focusing on evangelism or a teacher focusing on discipleship? Should you be a shepherd who thinks relationally or a leader who thinks strategically? The answers aren't always obvious.

In this video, I use Houston Heflin's book, Youth Pastor, to unpack the 10 primary roles that youth pastors play. So, the next time someone asks you what you do all week, you can say:
"I'm an evangelistic missionary, discipling teacher, pastoral shepherd, organized administrator, bold prophet, compassionate priest, spiritual friend, equipping recruiter, visionary leader, and faithful teammate."

Maybe that will help them understand.
