So Valve annouced a bunch of new hardward coming in early 2026, including the return of the Steam Machine (happily branded by the internet as "The GabeCube"), a successor to the Steam Controller and a new VR Headset.
Mike and Isaac have a lot to say about the new hardware, and have a lot of hopes for how much these devices will cost.
Personal thoughts from Mike:
The Steam Frame needs to be able to compete with the Meta Quest 3/S, which is probably the best consumer grade VR Headset out there.
I am really hoping for that the Steam Frame is $300 to $500 USD, but it's going to be really hard to keep the price down considering that the Steam Frame also has a PC built inside of it.
It's still probably going to cost a lot, but If it's near the same price as the Valve Index ($1000+), then it's a no go.
The Steam Controller 2026 also looks great and I can't wait to get it. I own quite a few controllers with Hall Effect/TMR sticks, trigger locks, back buttons, gyro and all that, but I don't own any capacitive stick controllers, which is really cool and would make gyro usage way more functional.
There are so many good third party game controllers out there that offer the same functions as the Steam Controller 2026 (Like the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless, or the GameSir G7 Pro and Tarantula Pro) but capacitive touch sticks and grips are really cool and unique. Only other controller I know that had capacitive sticks was the HORIPAD for Steam, and it was terrible.
As for the Steam Machine, I might consider one depending on the price, but from what I heard, it's going to be priced like a modern PC and not like a console, so I will have to wait and see.
