The Chinook is equipped with several cargo-loading features, including multiple fuselage doors, a large rear loading ramp, and three external ventral cargo hooks for carrying underslung loads. When it entered service in 1962, it had a top speed of 170 knots (200 mph or 310 km/h), making it significantly faster than other utility and attack helicopters of the 1960s. Even today, it remains one of the fastest helicopters in the U.S. arsenal.
