Bachmann mk1 GUV

Well, this has been sitting under my desk for a while and its about time it emerged from the box to take up residence on the layout!

Bachmann GUV 39-277 has been on the market now for some years, and has been produced in a variety of livery’s to represent most of the colours they've worn throughout their working lives.

You’d wouldn't expect anything less with packaging these days, sturdy
box and inner plastic packaging holding the vehicle securely.

A bag containing the fixed bar coupling can be found in the box. Also in the bag are two dummy buckeye couplings, I don’t why as these vans were never fitted with such things, that is apart from the later conversions!

The model has the coupling on the body as opposed to the bogies and I’m still not convinced this is the “best” way it should be done!

My records show I have several of these already and this one needs renumbering.
Being Bachmann the factory applied numbers are easily removed with a cocktail stick.


Introduced in 1957 the GUV General Utility Van became the standard BR parcels van replacing hundreds of vans from pre-nationalised companies. I say replaced in jest, as in 1980 23 years after their introduction, dozens of GWR LNER LMS SR vehicles where still in daily use!

Nearly a thousand were built and the variations that ensued are to numerous mention on a 3 minute review!

Metal wheels and axles into a hard plastic bogie should give a long life of running unlike lima wagons and coaches that wear out and need bearing replacements.

Overall, this model is a very good replication of the real thing. With fine detail and good running qualities I think its worth its RRP price.
