Thaka Janu Jam: Percussion Showcase

A scintillating percussion performance that will make you want to get up and dance!

The ensemble brings together percussion instruments from Classical and folk styles of Indian music. Sounds of Mridangam, Ghatam, Kanjira, Tabla,  Damru and Sri Khol blend together to create rhythm that is energetic and joyous. Electronic beats set a background while strains of the Veena interspersed with Padhant style recitations embellish the recital.

For the team comprising of Swaminath Jayaraman, Anirudh Sharma, KDB Madhavi and Mahesh Raghvan, the process of creating this percussion ensemble piece was exciting. Together, they explored the nuances of sound from each instrument, and at the same time experimented with the improvisations in playing their instruments.
