In Episode 3 of Mythunderstood, I sit down with my good friend Elijah Lamb for a wide ranging conversation on The Lord of the Rings, Narnia, myth, beauty, and what it actually means to discern truth in art. We talk Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Dune, Harry Potter, music, movies, and why stories move us the way they do. This is not a surface level fandom discussion. It is a deep dive into why myth still matters and why beauty, goodness, and truth cannot be separated.
We explore how Tolkien and Lewis understood the world as enchanted, not escapist. From Middle-earth and Narnia to the Logos of John chapter one, we talk about sacrifice, meaning, and the Christian vision of reality. Why does The Lord of the Rings still give people hope? Why do characters like Samwise Gamgee, Gandalf, Aragorn, and Frodo resonate so deeply? Why does willful self sacrifice strike us as the highest form of love? And what does all of this have to do with Christ, the cross, and the undoing of evil?
This episode is about recovering wonder in a disenchanted world. It is about resisting the flattening of beauty into utility, rejecting a gray and hollow vision of life, and choosing to believe that the world is still held together by meaning. If you love Tolkien, Christian theology, philosophy, myth, and conversations that take faith and art seriously, this episode is for you. Join us as we work toward the myth being fully understood.
