Here are my top tips for recording acoustic guitar at home and answer the question, direct input vs mic, which is better?

With so many of us having to record at home at the moment it can be difficult to make a professional sounding acoustic recording. Often our homes aren't acoustically treated, sound-proofed or setup to be able to record professionally. However, with these simple tips you can take your room out of the equation.

Using a condenser mic is the most traditional way to record acoustic guitar. In this video I explain how to use this microphone and also point out the potential issues you might encounter when using them at home. But don't worry, I also show you how to fix them.

Direct input or DI is the most common approach for live performances but it isn't always the best sounding solution for recording acoustic guitar. However, if you're recording acoustic guitar at home, then Direct Input gives you a lot more control over your environment so I share how you can effectively make a DI signal sound good.

By implementing these tips you'll achieve much more professional recordings and no one will be able to tell that you've been recording your acoustic guitar at home.
