Watch this first video and learn the different postures and grips/finishes inside and out. Drill the different postures and do positional rolling in all of these postures to solidify the techniques in each posture and the smooth transition from one posture to the other. DO NOT short yourself on MASTERY OF THE BASICS!
SAFETY FOR THE PERSON APPLYING THE SUBMISSION:
1. Always apply all submissions with slow steady pressure to give your training partner a change to tap. Release the hold IMMEDIATELY when you feel or even suspect they are submitting physically or verbally. This will also train you to keep good control and depend on your technique to finish your opponents instead of your physical attributes.
2. When in doubt let it go and practice your transition to the next thing. Injuring your training partner because they were proud or didn't know to tap is unfortunate and avoidable.
SAFETY FOR THE PERSON HAVING THE SUBMISSION DONE TO THEM:
1. When having a submission done to you tap in time to avoid injury and let your training partner know they are applying the technique correctly.
2. When in doubt, tap early, tap often, and live to train the very next day. Loose your ego on the mat (and in life) and your progress will be continuous.
