Dye Time

When I get new dyes, I dye up a 10g sample at a 1% depth of shade so I can get a feel for the dye, how easily it binds to the yarn, if it bleeds, the colour shade etc. This then leaves me with lots of 10g mini skeins. So why not experiment with over dyeing? This started as a 1% depth of shade of Saffron Spice acid dye from Dharma. I randomly picked scarlet acid dye from DT Craft and Design to over dye it with. This time I decided to dip dye the orange yarn into the red dye, aiming to reserve some of the original orange. I discovered that I need to experiment a lot with layering colours!

Fibre reactive dyes can be used on plant based fibre and animal based fibres. Acid dyes can only be used on animal based fibres.
