“Can technology deepen this earth community in love? Not without a renewed consciousness of a third dimension, an inner center of divine love rising up in evolution. Without a deepening of love through meditation or contemplation, super-fast information will eventually widen the gaps between us instead of bringing us to a new level of life. It is time to take the reins of our own evolution in hand and ask where we are going and if we are going together. Despite our incredible discoveries in technology, we still lack a sense of belonging together. Can we imagine a new religion of the earth, realizing that every moment is a God-ing moment of ultimate meaning and concern? Can institutional religions let go of divisive historical doctrines and work together for a new church of the planet? Can they widen their narratives to include evolution and complexities of evolution? The truth is that we belong to a cosmic whole. In the words of Thomas Berry, “We will go into the future as a single sacred community or we will both perish in the desert.” (Re-enchanting the Earth, 224-225)
