The station commenced operations in September 1882 as part of a privately funded initiative by the Grange Railway and Investment Company, establishing a line from Woodville to Grange. In the 1890s, the South Australian Railways assumed control and extended the line to Henley Beach. However, this extension was discontinued in 1957, reverting Grange to its status as the line's terminus.
