A song about the history of the old flag of the USA and about the importance of family.
Explanation on the lyrics: Old Glory is the nickname of the USA. Sea captain William Driver got it at his 21st birthday from his mom, when he became a US merchant captain. His wife adapted their own flag with the extra stars and an anchor to symbolize the extra states in the union and the maritime career of her husband. When the civil war broke out, two sons enlisted with the conferates. Driver wrote: "Two sons in the army of the South! My entire house estranged..." and one son soon fell to the war. Driver kept true to the Union however, hiding the flag under threat of his own peril, and raising it himself during the battle of Nashville. Through his efforts the flag was saved and these days it in the Smithsonian collection. William's story is a sad story of families being divided by politics troughout history. May all learn from it.
