Let's look at the first three lines of Beowulf in rather extreme detail. Whether you want to learn Old English, or just gain an appreciation for what someone translating a work like Beowulf has to contend with, you'll benefit from seeing how Old English works.
Clarification: OE fremman 'perform' is more closely related to from than the for- in _forwards_, but ultimately the two word families are very likely related.
