Arnold Palmer The King. From Latrobe, Pennsylvania to global icon: 62 PGA Tour victories (5th all-time) and 7 major championships Masters 1958/1960/1962/1964, U.S. Open 1960, and The Open 1961/1962. Together with Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player, he formed The Big Three, the trio that made golf a worldwide phenomenon during the television era. His devoted fanbase, Arnie’s Army, transformed golf from an elite pastime into a sport for everyone. @FairwayGoats After winning the 1954 U.S. Amateur, Palmer’s professional career became unstoppable: his first Tour victory came in 1955 (Canadian Open), followed by 29 titles between 1960–1963, four Vardon Trophies, and six Ryder Cup appearances—including 1963 as the last playing captain. In total, he claimed 95 professional wins, plus 10 Champions Tour titles (5 senior majors).
Palmer brought new prestige to The Open Championship among American golfers by chasing the so-called “Hogan Triple” in 1960; he went on to win in 1961 and 1962. In 1974, he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Off the course, Palmer built an empire: owner of Bay Hill (home of today’s Arnold Palmer Invitational), co-founder of The Golf Channel, and designer of over 300 golf courses across 37 U.S. states and 25 countries through the Arnold Palmer Design Company. His philanthropy left a lasting mark through the Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation, the Winnie Palmer Hospital, and the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.

He passed away on September 25, 2016, in Pittsburgh, yet his legacy lives on—through his tournaments, his courses, his charitable work, and in every fan who ever shouted “Go Arnie!”
Beyond his victories, Palmer inspired generations with what Golf Digest once called “The Greatest Golf Swing Tip of All Time.” His philosophy was simple yet revolutionary: “Point your lead shoulder at the ball.” That single thought balanced the body, powered the hips, and created effortless, centered contact a move that shaped millions of golf swings and remains one of the simplest, most effective fundamentals in the game today.
