Plein air lightweight backpack for sketching!

When it's blazing hot, (or any other weather, too) you want to keep your gear light, CARRY WATER, and make sure you don't get worn out before you start painting. Here's the gear I carried with me last week during the workshop I was teaching (and recent plein air outings where I was painting in my sketchbook). This bag is a sturdy nylon fabric, Steve Madden brand that I found at Discount Shoe Warehouse two years ago! There are probably similar things available right now. This one was very comfortable with the padded straps that are adjustable. I was able to walk a couple miles to our site by the river to go paint! (yes, I was with a group who loved to walk!). I also carried my little folding stool as well - and these were not heavy at all!

So- I'm hoping you'll find these ideas useful. You can lighten your gear up a little more if you're willing to leave a few things behind that I suggested. But BRING THE WATER! You'll be so glad you did!
