The Focke-Achgelis Fa 223 Drache (Dragon) was a helicopter developed by Germany during World War II, marking a significant milestone as the first helicopter to achieve production status. Powered by a single 1,010 hp Bramo 323 radial engine, the Fa 223 featured two large three-bladed rotors, each with a diameter of 11.9 meters (39 feet), mounted on twin booms flanking the 12.2-meter-long (40 feet) cylindrical fuselage. Despite its advanced design, production was severely hampered by Allied bombings, and only 20 units were ultimately built.
