Welcome to the channel, I use 8×4×1mm shims and have had great success. however I've been educated on shims by a viewer. Learning every day.
The outer diameter of the shim MUST NOT! be any larger than the outer diameter of the bearing. This may cause binding.
However the inner diameter must match the size of your shaft/axle or pin. You may play around with different thickness of shim 0.1-0.2mm ect until your happy with play and no binding.
