At Guitar Gallery, we compare two exceptional dreadnoughts from Collings Guitars — the D2HA (2014) and the D2HG (2003) — both master-built in Austin, Texas, yet voiced with distinct tonal personalities.
While the guitars share identical tonewoods for the back and sides (East Indian rosewood) and meticulous Collings craftsmanship, the main difference lies in the top wood:
🌲 The D2HA features an Adirondack spruce top — powerful, dynamic, and articulate.
🌲 The D2HG sports a German spruce top — silky, refined, and rich in harmonic overtones.
Both guitars were fitted with a fresh set of D’Addario XS 12-gauge strings one hour before recording to ensure a fair and consistent comparison.
🎧 Recorded live at Guitar Gallery South Africa, where every instrument is hand-selected, inspected, and professionally setup to bring out its finest tone and playability.
