"Braindead and the Angry Inch" - Table Scraps #1 (6/20/24)

I realized I've got a lot of clutter on my hard drive taking up space that consists of song ideas that I'll never finish for one reason or another. Maybe I didn't like the direction things were heading in, or maybe I just got bored. Either way, I'll probably never pick up these ideas again - and if I do, I'll start over. So I figured, what the hell. Let me throw them up for a laugh. So here's "Table Scrap" number one - Braindead and the Angry Inch...

I had forgotten about this one.

Imagine me, an overweight man in his late fifties, as a trans female leading a punk rock band. The idea is hilarious, but I know I'll probably never do anything with it. The original song    • Angry Inch - Hedwig & the Angry Inch   is a total jam. It's a great song and I'd really love to do a full blown Braindead cover of it one day, but it's unlikely that I ever will.

These were just some very very preliminary things I threw together. I had envisioned the heavy-handed Braindead synth bass layers bouncing around, but it didn't turn out that way. The bass sounded more like a focal point than a driving force. That, in combination with a ridiculously busy drum track - a pitched-up loop from    • Devo - Disco Dancer (12" Mix) [HQ]   - started moving the song away from what I hoped it would evolve to. I wanted punk guitars with heavy techno synth bass, almost industrial. But what came out that day was an eighties gay-clubbing disco-dancefloor drag show. The song deserved better, so I put this one out of its misery.
