Yoko Tomoe Nage

Leigh Remedios is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Traditional Ju Jitsu and Tae Kwon Do. He is a prolific competitor and has competed internationally in martial arts, including the UFC and Polaris. Leigh's throwing system for Jiu Jitsu is based on a simple gripping strategy and rolling takedowns that resemble guard sweeps. The intention is that Jiu Jitsu players will be able to utilise familiar skills to get a collar grip and turn someone over from underneath.

Tomoe Nage is a useful throw for Jiu Jitsu as it mimics the guard pull with a foot on the hip. This means that Tori can pull guard as usual but with the added bonus of a potential throw for two points. In this Yoko Tomoe Nage variation, Uke has not given the gripping requirements for Yoko Wakare or Sumi Gaeshi and has instead forced a neutral grip with their hips back. Tori, therefore, takes higher grips on the collar and sleeve to assist in breaking Uke's posture. This is the kuzushi for the throw.
