In this video, I analyse ‘Prayer to the Masks’ by Léopold Sédar Senghor in which he creates an awareness of the effects of colonialism in Africa and attempts to build a sense of pride in one’s African heritage and identity by appealing to the ancestral spirits to help the oppressed Africans overcome the present state of subjugation and hopelessness.
I also unpack and guide you through some past paper questions on the poem.
