Tools Required:
10mm socket & 1/4 ratchet
T30 socket
7mm socket
flathead screwdriver
Needle nose pliers
Wire cutters
Zip ties

Parts Needed:Replacement fan assembly (for 2006–2011 S40)

Disconnect negative battery cable

Removal Instructions
Disconnect Battery: Loosen negative battery cable with 10mm socket and 1/4 ratchet.
Set aside.

Remove Charge Pipe: Loosen charge pipe clamps (airbox to throttle body, and at cam cover near middle of engine) with 7mm socket or flathead for airbox/throttle, and 10mm socket for cam cover clamp.
Remove pipe.

Disconnect Coolant Lines: At coolant bottle (left side of engine), use needle nose pliers to release clamps and set lines aside.

Remove air box by disconnecting ECU and MAF sensor.

Cut zip ties holding ECU harness to the bottom of the airbox. remove one t30 holding loom to box as well as slide the clip forward on the front of the air box.

Push everything out of the way on the right hand side and then wiggle the air box out of the grommets and slide the air box to the right. You can also remove the 3 prong plastic clips holding the radiator at the top to get additional clearance. This is the first tough part of the job, wiggle until you clear the plastic dowels enough to get it to the right and then pull upwards on the MAF side.

Unplug Fan Connectors: Disconnect fan motor and control unit connectors.

Remove the t30 torx holding the trans cooler to the shroud.

Release Fan Clips: Slot flathead screwdriver into clips on both sides of fan shroud. Push tabs and pull fan upward to release.

Remove Fan: Push power steering line aside. Lift fan, tilt the right side upwards and angle the left side down and over while pushing the trans cooler down and to the right. pull up on the right side of the cooling fan, and extract.
