Few fights, usually against foes which are already in combat with rivaling factions. No trouble to be expected.

Trying a profession agnostic point blank caster based on cheap yet effective, synergizing fire and air magic spells. The one smite is probably not even worth it and one should rather go with shock to extend whirlwind's range.
The short-duration conditions are used to trigger fevered dreams and fragility but also to create cross-build synergies with three primary elementalists that benefit from cracked armour and burning. To boost the effectiveness of fevered dreams' dazed the mesmers combine arcane conundrum and stolen speed for greatly increased spell casting times. The side effect of stolen speed is to allow the elementalists to cast faster for damage compression.
I recall that the build worked reasonably well but would've benefitted from minions. (There's been quite a while between video capture and video description.)
