Today, we are taking a train in South America and in fact it is the only train in Colombia for tourists! It takes you from Bogotá to Zipaquira, which is a town about an hour outside of Bogota. But what makes this so special is that this is the only train, the only passenger train in Colombia. Train travel is one of our favorites and we just love that we got to experience the Turistren or otherwise known as the Tren de la Sabana to the Zipaquira Salt Cathedral.
This train dates back to the 1800s and 45 years ago, the passenger trains were stopped in Colombia. So Turistren became privately owned to preserve this incredible tradition.
