Australian police are dealing with a string of major organised crime developments across the country.
In Victoria, exiled underworld boss Kazem “Kaz” Hamad has reportedly been arrested in Iraq on drug trafficking charges after years on the run. Authorities believe he ran his crime network from the Middle East while directing violent attacks linked to Victoria’s illegal tobacco wars. His arrest is seen as a major blow to transnational crime, though extraditing him to Australia could take years, if it happens at all.
Also in Melbourne, two men accused of running an alleged Medicare fraud worth more than $8 million were granted bail, despite claims the scheme was run from inside immigration detention. The final update focuses on the estate of slain Mongols bikie Sam “The Punisher” Abdulrahim. Court documents show he had nearly $1 million in assets, but heavy debts reduced the estate to about $257,000. His young daughter is the main beneficiary, though his father and sister are contesting the distribution. Abdulrahim survived multiple assassination attempts before he was gunned down in Preston. No one has been charged over his killing.
