Nestled in the heart of south County Dublin, Deansgrange Cemetery has been a place of remembrance and reflection since its opening in 1865. In this short documentary, we explore the history of one of Ireland’s largest and most significant cemeteries — from its Victorian origins to its carefully laid-out paths and monumental graves.
Discover the final resting places of some of Ireland’s most well-known figures, including musician Sinéad O’Connor, comedian Dermot Morgan, physicist and Nobel Laureate Ernest Walton, and Hollywood actor Barry Fitzgerald. We also visit the Republican Plot and the 1916 memorial, and reflect on the lives of other notable individuals such as Kathleen Clarke, revolutionary and first female Lord Mayor of Dublin, and local legend Davy Stephens, the famed newspaper man of Dún Laoghaire.
Through drone footage, ground-level shots, and archival images, this film offers a quiet journey through memory, history, and legacy — told in stone.
