Tadoba’s most-loved and photographed tiger, Chota Matka, needs our help - NOW.
In the last vlog of My Jungle Junction, I promised all of you that I would personally travel to Tadoba and find out the truth about his health. What I found was heartbreaking. Chota Matka is still limping badly, struggling to walk, and now appears to be infected with maggots or ticks near his neck and behind his ears. This can lead to severe tissue damage, intense pain, and, in extreme cases, can even turn fatal. He needs immediate medical attention.
This is why today we are launching India’s most urgent tiger conservation initiative — #SaveChotaMatka.
We are asking YOU - our viewers, followers, wildlife lovers, and Chota Matka supporters across the globe to join this campaign. All you need to do is comment your Name + #SaveChotaMatka in the comments section. We will compile all the names and formally request Tadoba’s forest officials to treat him at the earliest.
Some might say, “Let nature take its course.” But here’s the truth: In the past, forest officials have successfully treated Chota Matka after severe injuries. And if we can save him again, we must. Because every tiger saved is a victory for conservation.
CHOTA MATKA’S HEALTH JOURNEY – A QUICK RECAP
May 12 – Injured in a fierce fight with Bramha male tiger.
July 3 – Showed 60–70% recovery, but still under threat from other tigers.
July 12 – Almost fully recovered, confidently walking and leaping.
July 16–20 – Injured again after bringing down four cattle in one hunt. Limping heavily.
August 8–10 – On-ground sightings confirm he is still limping and possibly suffering from maggot infestation.
WHO IS CHOTA MATKA?
Son of the legendary Matkasur, Chota Matka is an icon of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, known for his calm dominance, striking blue eyes, and unmatched ability to walk alongside safari vehicles like royalty. From defeating rivals like Bajrang to surviving brutal fights with Mowgli and Bramha, he has been a living symbol of India’s Save The Tiger success story.
But with rivals like Veerbhadra, Mowgli, and Balli closing in on his territory, his survival is critical not just for Tadoba’s tiger dynamics but for the future of his bloodline.
