Big Boss from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island on Mario Paint Composer

Wow, its been a while!

So I guess this is what self-isolation will do. I've dabbled in MPC here and there over the last four years, but because of my job and other real life stuff I haven't been able to really spend as much time as I would like on it. Then, because of COVID-19 and me working at home in response, I've suddenly acquired more bits of time I didn't have before. I still wasn't even confident I'd finish something, but I found my old files for this and things started happening quickly.

I'm actually proud I completed this thing. A little backstory: I've always liked this song and have wanted to make it in MPC since probably 2011. However, due to pesky tempo gaps or difficult instrument choices, I wasn't able to ever come up with something that sounded decent. I've probably restarted this song four times over the years but to no avail.

Finally, a few days ago I decided to combine soundfonts to solve my instrumentation problem. I used Adolfobaez's Electronica soundfont (always one of my faves) with the original soundfont cars and mushroom. I have cars covering three octaves here too, which was fun to work with. For my tempo problem, I've become lucky that my computer has gotten older and slower over the years, so my old files that were once still too fast were suddenly just right... It's really pretty amazing how that worked out. It's a bare minimum fast tempo, so there was limited space for me to work with in terms of providing accurate volume and articulation. Some sacrifices were made. I'm still satisfied with the result all things considered, especially how this song has been elusive for me until now!

Also, working on this made me realize just how much I could benefit from using Super Mario Paint to bypass all those problems... I need to get a hold of that. It would be pretty swag.
