Assistant psychology professor, Karen Hussar, introduces us to the social domain theory which allows for us to comprehend people’s moral reasoning by analyzing the actions or events that occur in different social settings. She describes the three different domains, the moral, social-conventional, and personal domain. By allowing people to look at this issue through different lenses and categories, all three of those domains come together to explain the mixed domain issues that Dr. Hussar touched upon which was wearing a mask and getting a vaccine. Lastly, Dr. Hussar emphasizes the importance of the social domain theory and how it allows you to understand that everyone has a different perspective and not everyone interprets actions and events the same way as you. Dr. Karen Hussar graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) with her doctorate in Human Development and Psychology. Since graduating from HGSE, Karen has continued to pursue both her teaching and research interests. She has been teaching in the Psychology Department at Curry College since 2014. She has also served as an instructor at Bridgewater State College, Brown University, Dean College, Fisher College, Hobart & William
Smith Colleges, and Pine Manor College. Karen also worked as a Senior Research & Evaluation Associate at the Education Alliance, Brown University. Karen’s research interests focus on children’s moral development, with a particular interest in children's treatment towards animals and the environment. Her research on moral development has been published in academic journals such as Ecopsychology, Journal of Environmental Psychology, and Social Development. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
