Centrifugal Casting of Ductile Iron Pipe - the De Lavaud Process

All of the pipe manufactured by McWane Ductile is cast using the De Lavaud Process. In our industrial casting machines, molten Ductile iron is poured into a mold spinning at high speed. The iron flows onto the inside of the mold forming the shape of the pipe. Sparks will fly! This method of casting pipe was created in 1921 by a Brazilian named Dimitri Sensaud deLavaud. Over the years the quality and efficiency of the process has been refined.
