In this compilation video, we pay tribute to my Grandad, Robert Barber, who passed away in August 2025.
Throughout my life we did so many things together and he helped to raise me to be who I am today. Without him, I don't know where I would be!
As a child and into his teenage years, he use to regularly trainspot in Derby, where he was born and even made the odd trip to Crewe during the 50s & 60s.
His favourite class of locomotive was the LMS Jubilees, spotting them all the time and in coincidentally, the four preserved ones, alongside of his other favourite classes such as the Britannias, Royal Scots, Black Fives, 9Fs, Crabs & 4Fs (Duck 6s as he would call them) to name but a few. He loved anything big, with big smoke deflectors and a good chime whistle!
This compilation aims to capture most of the locomotives he loved, saw in his life and some of his favourite steam clips captured on the channel with a different loco on every clip.
We would always go on many holidays, visit heritage railways and travel on steam and diesel railtours around the country together, or even watching the Green Umbrella DVDs featuring locos such as Flying Scotsman & Clan Line, which are memories I will more than cherish forever!
The stories he would tell me were fantastic of how he use to catch Jubilees from Derby to Newton Abbott when he joined the army
The time he saw the Prototype Deltic (DP1) at Crewe
The time a 4F hauled a holiday special back from Blackpool to Derby and went much faster than he expected!
The time he fell off of the Lickey Banker No. 2290 Big Bertha at a Derby Works open day as a kid, whilst trying to climb on it!

THANK YOU for the memories, Grandad, you may be gone, but legends never die and I know that whenever I or my family are having fun and laughs, you will be somewhere close by in spirit, as that's what you were all about!
Rest easy, Grandad.
