Surfcasting for Yellow Tail Kingfish NZ

In this video we target yellow tail kingfish surfcasting. taking on the challenge of catching a kingfish from the land is no easy feat when you are learning to fish, however there are a few things you can do to increase your chances of catching a kingfish from the rocks, beach or wharf by fishing with the different rigs, setting out to find likely fishing locations that hold good food sources for the predatory fish that is the kingfish.
when surfcasting, rockfishing or fishing from land in general for a kingi using live bait with different fishing rigs is a must. targetting them often means you can have a slow day while live bait are waiting for the kingis to come past or to check out what is on offer.
so fishing with the Ledger rig or dropper rig as some know it, the slidebaiting rig and the tired and tested balloon rig can be hugely effective ways to catch a yellow tail kingfish.
using different types of livebait and differing sizes can also mean the difference between catching a kingi and not.
In this video you will see the different fishing rigs used to target kingfish and how on a given day the result can be suprising. On this day the kingfish ate the smallest of live bait we had on offer and yet was big enough to eat any of the livies we had set out.
surfcasting is one of my favourite settings to target kingfish as its a lot harder done. So in this video we had to get it done.

In this video you will also see some amazing rock fishing for snapper and we even took a trip to fish from a wharf. with some small shifts to the rigs being used we were able to fish the rocks, wharf and beach very effectively.
