Elder Dr. Evelyn Voyageur (Auntie Evelyn) is from Kingcome Inlet the Musgamagw Dzawada'enuxw First Nation and currently resides on the traditional territory of the K’omoks people with her husband Yvon. She holds a PhD in Psychology and has extensive experience in health care in the community, hospital and in nursing education as a registered nurse. Evelyn worked with the Indian Residential School Society for four years from 1999, where her work concentrated on isolated villages and support for former students healing from the trauma of residential schools.
Speaking to the trauma's of the Indian Act and her experience with the residential school system and the Potlatch Ban, Evelyn gives us a look into her experiences and cultural resiliency.
