1885 ൽ ചെമ്പുകാവിൽ ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട രാജ്യത്തെ ഏറ്റവും പഴക്കം ചെന്ന മൃഗശാലകളിൽ ഒന്നാണിത്.

ഇത് തൃശൂർ നഗരമദ്ധ്യത്തിൽ 13.5 ഏക്കർ വിസ്തൃതിയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു.
വിവിധതരം പക്ഷികളും മൃഗങ്ങളും ഉരഗങ്ങളും ഈ മൃഗശാലയിൽ വസിക്കുന്നു.
തൃശൂർ മൃഗശാലയുടെ അങ്കണത്തിൽ ഒരു പ്രകൃതിചരിത്രകാഴ്ചബംഗ്ലാവും സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു.
തൃശൂർ നഗരത്തിൽനിന്നും 2 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ ചെമ്പുകാവിൽ ആണ് മൃഗശാല സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്.
ഇത് രാവിലെ 10 മണിമുതൽ വൈകുന്നേരം 6.30 വരെ തുറന്നിരിക്കും.
മൃഗശാലയിൽ വിവിധതരം മൃഗങ്ങളും പക്ഷികളും ഉരഗങ്ങളും കൂടാതെ ഒരു സസ്യ പൂന്തോട്ടവും കലാകാഴ്ചബംഗ്ലാവും ഉണ്ട്. ഒരു പ്രകൃതിചരിത്രകാഴ്ചബംഗ്ലാവ് ഇതിന്റെ അങ്കണത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ശക്തൻതമ്പുരാൻ ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്ന ബോട്ടുകളും ഇവിടെ പ്രദർശിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
കടുവകൾ, സിംഹങ്ങൾ, മാനുകൾ, ഹിപ്പോപൊട്ടാമസുകൾ, വിവിധതരം പാമ്പുകൾ, ഫ്ലെമിംഗോകൾ, മുതലകൾ എന്നിവയാണ് മൃഗശാലയിലെ പ്രധാന അന്തേവാസികൾ. പാമ്പുകളെ വളർത്തുന്നതിനായി പ്രത്യേകം തയ്യാറാക്കിയ കെട്ടിടങ്ങളും മൃഗശാലയിലുണ്ട്.
പുത്തൂരിൽ പുതിയ മൃഗശാലയുടെ പണി നടന്നുവരുന്നു. ഇവിടെയുള്ള മൃഗശാലയ്ക്ക് 306 ഏക്കർ വിസ്തൃതിയുണ്ട്. പുതിയ മൃഗശാല പീച്ചി ഡാമിന് വളരെ അടുത്തായാണ് നിർമ്മിക്കുന്നത്. നിർമ്മാണശേഷം നിലവിലുള്ള മൃഗശാല അവിടേക്ക് മാറ്റിസ്ഥാപിക്കും.

The future : The Thrissur Zoological Park Wildlife Conservation & Research Centre is being constructed in nearby Puthur and will expand the size of the zoo from its current 13.5 acres (5.5 ha) to 306 acres (124 ha). The new zoo will be close to the Peechi Dam

The zoo includes a Zoological Garden, Botanical Garden, Art Museum, and Natural History Museum in its compound.
